Transforming Dental Care with OraQ™ - An AI-Driven Clinical Intelligence

Scaling dental care is more about ensuring every patient receives the same standard of care than opening more clinics. MindInventory helped make that possible by engineering OraQ™, an FDA-cleared and Health Canada-approved AI clinical decision support platform that empowers multi-location practices and DSOs to deliver consistent diagnoses, stay compliant, and scale efficiently with $4M secured funding for scaling the platform.

Transforming Dental Care with OraQ™ - An AI-Driven Clinical Intelligence
Project Overview

From Fragmented Data to Trusted Clinical Decisions

An AI platform that turns complex patient data into trusted treatment decisions.

From Fragmented Data to Trusted Clinical Decisions

OraQ™ set out to build a sophisticated AI-powered clinical decision support platform that would help dental practices move beyond fragmented patient data and inconsistent treatment approaches.

They needed a system capable of consolidating medical and dental information, delivering standardized risk assessments, integrating with existing practice management software, and presenting insights. All of that in a way that both clinicians and patients could trust, while meeting the rigorous regulatory standards required for clinical AI in the U.S. and Canada.

To build a scalable, compliance-ready platform, OraQ AI chose to partner with MindInventory. Over a multi-year engagement, we designed and developed the end-to-end solution, from clinical workflow discovery and AI-powered decision support to seamless system integrations, intuitive interfaces, and a robust architecture with regulatory readiness and long-term growth.

OBJECTIVES

Goals Behind OraQ™

  • Build a scalable, HIPAA & PIPEDA-compliant AI decision support platform.
  • Standardize clinical risk assessment and treatment planning.
  • Integrate with practice management and imaging systems.
  • Increase case acceptance by identifying missed treatment opportunities.
  • Improve patient trust with AI-powered visual risk profiles.
  • Achieve FDA and Health Canada regulatory readiness.
  • Deliver real-time clinical insights for providers and practice leaders.
CHALLENGES

Breaking Down Barriers to Consistent Clinical Care

Fragmented Clinical Data Across Multiple Systems
Patient records, imaging, periodontal charts, and medical histories were spread across disconnected systems, forcing clinicians to switch between platforms and slowing diagnosis and treatment planning.
Inconsistent Clinical Decisions Across Providers
Differences in clinical experience and treatment approaches led to inconsistent risk assessments and care recommendations, making it difficult for multi-location practices and DSOs to deliver standardized patient outcomes.
Limited Clinical Intelligence from Existing PMS Platforms
Existing practice management platforms effectively stored patient records but lacked the intelligence to identify clinical risks, treatment opportunities, and preventive care recommendations from available data.
Low Patient Understanding and Treatment Acceptance
Complex clinical terminology and traditional consultation methods made it difficult for patients to understand their oral health conditions, resulting in lower trust and delayed treatment decisions.
Legacy Systems That Couldn't Be Replaced
Practices relied on established practice management and imaging systems that could not be replaced. The challenge was enabling intelligent clinical workflows without disrupting existing operations or requiring costly migrations.
Scaling AI While Meeting Healthcare Compliance
Building a platform capable of supporting enterprise-scale dental organizations required balancing performance, interoperability, and stringent regulatory requirements, including FDA, Health Canada, HIPAA, and PIPEDA compliance.

Building the Intelligence Layer for Modern Dentistry

Built an AI-powered clinical decision support platform that unifies fragmented clinical data, standardizes risk assessments, and delivers explainable intelligence across dental organizations, without disrupting existing clinical workflows.

We built a centralized intelligence layer that aggregates patient histories, imaging, charting, periodontal records, and clinical findings from multiple practice management systems into a single, actionable clinical view. This eliminated fragmented workflows and enabled faster, more informed treatment decisions.

Using Clinical Risk Intelligence™, we transformed complex clinical data into standardized risk assessments across medical history, periodontal health, caries, bite function, sleep disorders, esthetics, and other oral health factors. The platform provides explainable recommendations that support.

We engineered a consistent decision-support framework that helps dentists and hygienists follow evidence-based clinical protocols regardless of experience level or practice location. This enables DSOs and multi-location organizations to deliver predictable, high-quality patient care at scale.

Rather than replacing existing infrastructure, the platform was designed to integrate seamlessly with leading practice management systems, imaging platforms, and future digital health technologies. This allowed organizations to modernize clinical workflows while preserving existing operational investments.

We translated complex clinical findings into intuitive visual wellness profiles and personalized treatment recommendations that patients could easily understand. This strengthened provider-patient communication, improved trust, and contributed to higher treatment acceptance.

The platform was engineered with a cloud-native architecture capable of supporting solo practices, multi-location clinics, and large DSOs while meeting stringent healthcare compliance requirements, including FDA, Health Canada, HIPAA, and PIPEDA standards.
